Gov. Charlie Baker Announces Senate Bill No. 2645 allowing for remote online Notary ServicesWEYMOUTH, MA -
MA Gov. Charlie Baker is now allowing Notary Publics across the Commonwealth to perform Notary Services online with services such as: Zoom, FaceTime, Google Duo, and other videoconferencing platforms. Due to the COVID-19 crisis, Massachusetts will now allow remote Notary Services as long as the customer provides a COPY of his or her: signature, Federal or State ID, and allows for the Notary to confirm his or her identity and that in fact they are located within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts during the Notarization. We will keep a copy of the document(s) that you have requested our services for, and, will retain copies of said documents and identification for up to 10 (ten) days after the services are completed. To ensure proper compliance, we will also be asking a set of questions as required by MA Law and require that the participant(s) be present on video during the ENTIRE transaction. Please be advised that our fees will increase for this service, and the fees listed on our site are subject to change at any time, depending on the services used during this ever-changing world in which we now live. Weymouth Notary Service will be open during regular business hours and serving those in need of mobile operations and services throughout the proposed quarantine in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Even during school closures and alternative business methods (work from home), we will remain open for all Notary appointments. As a precaution, we will not be observing the common greeting of shaking hands, or, making any physical contact with our clients until further notice. In addition, we are able to accept mobile payments via Venmo, as the spread of the disease may include the handling of cash. As you may or may not know, a Notary Public in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is NOT ALLOWED to provide legal advice, act as a translation service, or direct customers in any manner in regards to a document that may require Notarization.
Often times, customers will be unsure of where to sign. The Weymouth Notary Service WILL NOT, under any circumstances, provide advice as to where to sign. The consumer must be aware of these rules and regulations, as clearly defined on our website, on a disclaimer in our office, and provided to consumers on the Commonwealth of Massachusetts website. If you or your associate have trouble understanding a document, we kindly ask that you consult with the professionals that provided said document, or, ask for legal counsel if that is deemed more appropriate. Our job is to act as an impartial 3rd party to ensure the parties signing are in fact who they present themselves to be by validating and checking a government-issued ID. In addition, we kindly ask that your ID is NOT EXPIRED, and furthermore, we do not accept forms of ID such as credit cards, healthcare cards, or any alternative identification such as workplace ID's or membership cards of any kind. Lastly, we ask that you DO NOT SIGN said document in need of notarization prior to your arrival. Our purpose is to observe said signature and verify that it matches closely with your signature on a valid federal or state-issued ID. Learning these helpful hints prior to your arrival in our office will ensure a quick and easy process in order to handle your request. WEYMOUTH NOTARY SVC. issues warning to fellow Notaries and consumersAs we enter the year 2020, most folks are typically trained in writing the abbreviated, "20" from years prior, dating back to 2000 in short form when writing the date on legal documents and checks.
However, the unique 01/01/20 format that we see in the year 2020, for example, can lead to thieves and those looking to fool others on documents with legal or monetary implications to post-date all the way back to the year 2000. This article, written by the National Notary Association, gives a helpful glimpse into the "do's and don'ts" when performing notarial acts, or, just as a regular consumer. Thanks for reading, and, for all of your Notary Public and Business Service needs, please make sure to call us for an appointment.
